A poem by Summer Breeze
Dedicated to the sons of Cephas and Summer Breeze
Standing in the shadows of memories
That lay hidden in the faded past
A child’s face appears, innocently smiling
My heart embraces the child in melancholic bliss
A sadness grips my heart as the longing to return
Increases with the slowing beat of my heart
As my mind lingers to walk with memory’s phantoms
Where the child laughed and played with a glee
Lost unto the innocent in his memory’s trace.
Today a young man sets off to travel
To a land far from innocence or bliss
He walks on foreign soil of heart and spirit
Training to venture into the land of war
Where death and agony erase all traces
Of laughter and glee from the child’s sweet face,
A place where the memory that haunts me
Casts me longing into the shadows of memories estate
Where the pain and sadness of today are no more.
A young man with stark blue eyes and heart of fire
Gazes from behind dark prison walls and bars
Captured by the passions of his unbridled heart.
With him lingers in the shadows of his cell
A little boy laughing and playing with glee
His little arms embrace his mother tenderly
As he plants the kiss of innocence on her cheek.
Silently he watches the young man pace his cell
Whispering tender words from loving memories.
The young man hears a voice calling from the shadows
Though the sound is a distant muffled echo
His heart listens to the phantom words that call
A mournful heart to yield to the sound of yesterday.
Oh son of liberty hear the call of a little man
Who carried the hopes and dreams of tomorrow
In a heart filled with love and peacefulness.
Hear the voice of triumph and victory
From the lips of an innocent who could not see defeat.
Young man who runs to the ravaged land of war
Remember your soul buried deep in the past
Inside the wondering eyes of that sweet little boy.
Who was so wise and thirsted for knowledge.
There was nothing you could not achieve.
Hope and joy were your driving force.
Reach back into yesterday and bring the child forth
To erase the darkness that surrounds you now
In the perils and destruction of men who wage war.
Emmanate the love of the little boy to all around you.
Bring forth the phantom lurking in the shadows of yesterday.
Oh son of liberty, be free and empowered
Cast your soul in the well of love and peace
Allow no place for darkness or for war.
Embrace the spirit of the man you are
Who lurks in the shadows of forgotten days.
Rise up and emcompass the soul of the young man
Who walks lost in the wandering footsteps of foreign soil.
Standing in the place where Spirit dwells I pray
As I hold the fragile little boy in my arms.
A beautiful face framed with blue eyes and hair so white
He looks up and smiles lovingly into my eyes
As a tiny finger reaches to grasp the hand of his mother.
I am in awe and wonder at the peace of this little face
Who only days earlier fought life itself for breath
His birth was traumatic and passionately fierce
Oh Son of liberty, for you Victory was instant.
Death had swallowed your soul in the infancy of your time
Only to spew you out into the raging river of life.
I held you tenderly gazing into the face of a miracle
Grateful that the God of heaven had spared you
To walk the earth and fill the pages of time with memory.
The shadows of yesterday would be hollow
Without your laughter, your daring, your place
Remember now that prison walls have freed you
The victory for your brothers who remain Captive.
